so sad (guess that's why)

by Emily McNally

about

Dark, dreamy, and surreal, ‘so sad (guess that’s why)’ is queer folk-pop singer/songwriter Emily McNally’s latest single. This track was recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely by the Brooklyn-based artist on her iPhone.

With tight vocal stacks over minimalist looping production, ‘so sad (guess that’s why)’ is a moody meditation on yearning and self-sabotage. Poetic musings and fragmented thoughts flow through lows of bitter desperation and highs of almost delirious hope.

lyrics

I’ve been dreaming about something
I shouldn’t be speaking of
Cause I fear that your loving
Would just up and run
If I open myself up
Will I still get your touch?
You know i worry about this too much

It will be alright in the morning
I can blame the liquor in my system
Even if you’ll know i’m lying
I can not be honest
Unless I can roll back from consequences
My defenses
Are iron clad

Guess that’s why i’m so sad x3

Maybe if i grew up with more stories
Of people who loved like me
Or if the ghosts of my past
didn’t keep on haunting
(ahhhh)

In the junction
of the moon and sun
I believe you can be the one
Doing nothing to progress
I can handle this specific mess
and the way it goes bad

Guess that’s why im so sad x6

In the morning it will be alright
(in the junction of the moon and sun)
In the morning it will be alright
(in the junction of the moon and sun)
